ABOUT ME

​

My name is Nav Bala. I am a Talent, Learning & Development Consultant, and a Certified Human Resource Management Professional with skills in L&D strategy, talent assessment, leadership development, change management, and instructional design. My rich expertise in performance management & development is attributed to my industry experience and years of academic preparation that I received from my post graduate education.

 

After completing MBA in Human Resources in 2014, I started my HR career as a Talent Acquisition Consultant. In 2018, I graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology, NY with a MS in Human Resource Development (thesis track) and delved deeper into areas like change management, organization development, and program design & evaluation. 

I appreciate the power of research in bridging the theory-practice gap. My published research in the area of Organizational behavior, Employee learning, Leader emotional intelligence, and Skills gap in the manufacturing industry has shed light on some of the modern-day challenges within organizations. 

 

My goal is to enable employers optimize their employee talent using the latest L&D theory and practice. I thrive in highly challenging and intellectually stimulating work environments that offer both autonomy and ownership in terms of project delivery.

Training & Development projects at Aurubis

I joined Aurubis to help the People department in formalizing their training programs and in developing & solidifying some of their knowledge retention processes. I finished needs assessment in two of the biggest departments of the facility – Annealing & Quality. Results indicated that current competency skill gaps fall below 50% of ideal for all annealing operators and root-cause analysis highlighted major problems with people & processes in the Quality department.

 

Additionally, I revamped the new hire orientation & on-boarding program for salaried and union workforce to ensure consistency, accountability, and excellent employee experience for all new hires.

 

From an employee development perspective, I developed and administered position criticality assessments and nine grid assessments for both salaried and hourly positions to lay foundation for successful succession planning. My proposal served as a formal policy document for the organization.

Microlearning Program at the District Department of Transportation

My role at the District Department of Transportation was primarily focused on Just-in-Time learning. DDOT is the first US DOT agency to implement an organization-wide micro-learning program but it also has strict requirements for compliance and government regulations. I understood these requirements as I designed, developed, and rolled-out 17/26 high quality soft skills micro-blended modules to enable behavioral change among the C-Suite leadership.

I also directly interfaced with the frontline workforce to understand their unique learning requirements and analyze how micro-learning could be incorporated into their training. These frontline workforce cohorts are kinesthetic, visual learners and the content had to be designed keeping in mind these characteristics.

Global Onboarding Program at Internews 

I was tasked with developing the infrastructure for the Global New Hire Onboarding program for the HQ and Field staff by understanding current gaps, assessing developmental needs, designing training content, and establishing standardized procedures for development, delivery, evaluation, measurement, and reporting.

I partnered with the Director of OD and TD to conduct stakeholder analysis, assess technological requirements, streamline processes, and conduct regular stakeholder meetings to help teams solidify their respective departmental trainings. 

​

I also provided interdepartmental strategy, complex problem solving, and communication support as a change agent for these projects.

Professional Skills Development at the Rochester Institute of Technology

I designed, developed, and formalized the 2019 and 2020 soft skill workshop for freshmen and graduate engineering student cohort at RIT. My role required me to maintain consistent communication with the instructor to understand instructional requirements and targeted competencies so we could design engaging e-learning training modules for our audience.

 

I used different learning modalities that combined online learning and in-person instruction to develop 20 soft skills modules for highly skilled, educated adult students. I was also responsible for conducting pre and post training assessments to analyze the success of these workshops.
